The Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, tweeted on Saturday that Dr. Maktoum, one of the pioneers of Dubai’s healthcare sector greeted the In memory of Baron Joseph Muscat.
The Vice President of the United Arab Emirates paid great tribute to his late doctor and praised him for his impact on the lives of the people of the Emirates.
“Today Dubai mourns the passing of Dr. Joseph Baron, an inspirational physician. His knowledge, compassion and dedication will always be remembered. I was alone,” Dubai’s ruler wrote in his post. The Briton was a pioneer in Emirates’ healthcare sector. He laid the foundation for medical services and education in Dubai in his 1976. He was head of general practice at Rashid Hospital and Dubai Hospital, restructuring the department from scratch to include specialties such as cardiology, pulmonology and gastroenterology.
He was also the founder of the regional office for members of the Royal College of Medicine in Dubai (MRCP) and was at the forefront of establishing the Dubai Women’s Medical College in 1988.
Dr. Baron was born in 1934 and studied at Saint Luke’s College in Malta. I moved to the UK in 1960 and spent 17 years studying and working in medicine before coming to the UAE in 1977.
The deceased doctor’s funeral will be held at 9 am on Saturday, November 26 at Jebel’s Ali’s Dubai Christian Cemetery.
