A group of human rights organizations applauded the UAE’s choice to pardon citizens of Bangladesh who had participated in the most recent protests.
These people were found guilty of offenses that compromised public safety and order, and they received sentences for their legal transgressions.During the 57th United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session, the coalition issued a global statement.
This decision, according to the coalition, reflects the UAE’s long-standing humanitarian approach and reinforces its adherence to the values of tolerance. The coalition is led by the Union Association for Human Rights and consists of over 20 international, regional, and national human rights organizations, including nine groups that hold consultative status with the UN.
Human rights organizations applauded the UAE Attorney General’s prompt execution of the pardon, which included deferring fines and facilitating steps to guarantee defendants’ and convicts’ repatriation to their native countries.
They also praised the justice system in the Emirates and its adherence to the rules of impartial and independent courts.
Noting that these procedures comply with international norms, the statement further commended the humanitarian surroundings and circumstances offered during the custody and sentencing phases.
