Following assaults on Hezbollah, Iran threatens Israel

Following explosions involving communication devices, the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard vows to “destroy” Israel.

According to state media, Hossein Salami, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, has informed Hassan Nasrallah, the head of Hezbollah, that Israel will encounter “a crushing response from the axis of resistance”.

Salami made the announcement on Thursday following two days of extraordinary strikes on Hezbollah walkie-talkies and pagers, which resulted in the detonation of hundreds of explosives nearly simultaneously, injuring over 2,900 people and killing 37.

The term “axis of resistance” describes armed groups in the Middle East that are associated with Iran, such as the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq, Yemen’s Houthis, and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

Israel has been accused of carrying out the assaults on Tuesday and Wednesday by Lebanon and Hezbollah. Although security sources claimed the explosions were most likely carried out by Israel’s Mossad espionage organization, Israel has not responded to the reports explicitly.

“There is no doubt that the Zionist regime’s [Israel’s] hopelessness and a string of setbacks are to blame for such terrorist activities. Salami wrote in his message to Nasrallah, “This will soon be greeted with a crushing response from the axis of resistance, and we shall see the destruction of this ruthless and criminal administration.”Israel and Iran regularly exchange threats of annihilation. When Iran fired drones and missiles in its first direct attack against Israel in April in retaliation for a horrific Israeli raid on its embassy in Syria that claimed 13 lives, their hostilities reached a pinnacle.

When Israel murdered Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut within hours of each other and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran after he attended President Masoud Pezeshkian’s inauguration, tensions escalated once more in July.

Many predicted that those executions would lead to a larger regional conflict, but as of right now, no significant reaction has been issued.

Nasrallah declared that the explosions targeting Hezbollah members are “a declaration of war” in his first statement since this week’s bombings in Lebanon on Thursday. He also pledged revenge without providing a timeframe for doing so.

Hezbollah has taken a “huge and unprecedented” hit, Nasrallah acknowledged. He did, however, also express defiance by stating that Israel will receive a “fair penalty.”

Following the speech, Yoav Gallant, Israel’s minister of defense, declared that Hezbollah “will pay an increasing price” as Israel works to reunify its northern areas with the people who were evacuated due to tit-for-tat attacks by Hezbollah across the Lebanon border, which started after Israel began its war on Gaza on October 7.

Tens of thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their homes due to the firefights on both sides of the border.

Six Hezbollah “infrastructure installations” and a weapons storage facility in southern Lebanon, a bastion of the organization, were targeted overnight, according to a statement released by the Israeli military on Thursday.

The official National News Agency of Lebanon also reported on Israeli shelling and strikes on a number of southern towns.
Two Israeli soldiers were slain, according to the Israeli military, not far from the Lebanon border.
