TEHRAN: Iran’s incomparable chief Ayatollah Ali Khamenei provided Sunday with his authority support of reformist Masoud Pezeshkian as the Islamic republic’s 10th president, following snap races that had closed recently. “I endorse the vote (for) the wise, honest, popular, and scholarly Mr. Pezeshkian, and I am appointing him as the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said in a message read by the director of Khamenei’s office. The new president is expected to be confirmed before parliament on Tuesday. In the presence of senior Iranian officials and foreign diplomats, the endorsement ceremony was held in Tehran and broadcast on state television.

Pezeshkian won an overflow political decision on July 5 against the traditionalist Saeed Jalili to supplant president Ebrahim Raisi who kicked the bucket in a helicopter crash in May. The reformer, who is 69 years old, received over 16 million votes, or 54% of the roughly 30 million ballots cast. Iran’s electoral authority reports that 49.8 percent of eligible voters participated in the runoff election, an increase from the first round’s record-low of about 40 percent.

Jalili went to Sunday’s function, as did previous moderate president Hassan Rouhani who had supported Pezeshkian’s official offered alongside Iran’s really reformist alliance. Pezeshkian was the main competitor addressing Iran’s reformist camp permitted to remain in the political race, for which all competitors were supported by the moderate ruled Watchman Chamber.

Iran’s leader isn’t head of state, and a definitive power rests with the incomparable pioneer — a post held by Khamenei throughout the previous 35 years. Pezeshkian promised to carry the “heavy burden” of the presidency after Khamenei’s official endorsement and thanked the leader as well as the Iranian people.

The political decision came against a scenery of uplifted territorial pressures since the Gaza war started toward the beginning of October, debates with Western controls over Iran’s atomic program, and homegrown discontent over the condition of the assents hit economy. Pezeshkian had stated on the campaign trail that he would work to reestablish a 2015 nuclear agreement with the United States and other world powers that restricted Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for relief from sanctions.

The arrangement fell in 2018 after Washington pulled out from it. Pezeshkian has in a new article called for “productive relations” with European nations, despite the fact that he blamed them for reneging on responsibilities to moderate the effect of US sanctions. Pezeshkian is a heart specialist who has addressed the northwestern city of Tabriz in parliament starting around 2008. He was Iran’s last reformist president, Mohammad Khatami, and he was in charge of health from 1997 to 2005.
