Masoud Pezeshkian, the incoming president of Iran, reiterated the Islamic republic’s support for the Hezbollah group in Lebanon on Monday and criticized Israel’s actions against Palestinians.
The assertion, gave to Hezbollah’s boss Hassan Nasrallah on the IRNA official news organization, was one of the primary international strategy remarks from Pezeshkian since his triumph in Friday’s official political race overflow.
Hezbollah, which was established at the initiative of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards following Israel’s 1982 takeover of Beirut during the civil war in Lebanon, receives financial and military support from Tehran.
Pezeshkian said, “The support of the resistance is rooted in the fundamental policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” referring to Hezbollah and related organizations. He expressed optimism that the “resistance movement” would put an end to Israel’s “warmongering and criminal policies” in Gaza, where Israel has been at war with Hamas, a Palestinian ally of Hezbollah, for nine months.
Hezbollah and Israel have exchanged near-daily fire over Lebanon’s border since the war in Gaza began, causing global concern about the possibility of all-out war as fighting escalates. Iran “will not hesitate to support the Lebanese nation,” Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani stated earlier Monday, and Israel “must be aware of the consequences of any adventurous action in the region, especially towards Lebanon.”
In the election that was postponed following the death of president Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash, reformist Pezeshkian defeated ultraconservative Saeed Jalili, a former nuclear negotiator.
After the vote, Israeli Unfamiliar Clergyman Israel Katz said the political race result was a “reasonable message of interest for change and resistance” from the Iranian public. On Saturday, Nasrallah praised Tehran’s role as a “strong” supporter of regional “resistance” groups and wished Pezeshkian well in his election victory.
The Axis of Resistance is an alliance of armed movements that oppose Israel and the United States and are pro-Iran. The Shiite Muslim movement is a key component of this alliance. Hamas and Yemen’s Huthi rebels, as well as fighters in Iraq, are part of the alliance.
