The series Derry Girls is created and written by Lisa Mc Gee and produced by Hat trick productions. The series was first broadcasted in January and February in 2018. It is all about the Erin and her friends as they grew up in a world of armed police in armoured land Rovers and British Army check points in 1990s Northern Ireland and attempt to navigate the highs and lows of being the teenagers.
The story is quite interesting and the humour in this series is understated an often described as situational Comedy and also the wierd action performed by the lead actors get into throughout the show.
Derry Girls comedy seems funnier and wittier than the usual reen of the mill drill .Fine writing and perfomance by its cast made this series super exciting and powerful.
Of late, makers have been resorting to the good old trick of nostalgia to win over the audience. Sometimes it works, others times it doesn’t. In Derry Girls, it is not only used as some dependable hack, but as a proper element of the show. The series is set in 90s Northern Ireland, a culture and a part of the world which many of us would not be familiar much about it. Content is set in the 80s and 90s America is that much easier.
Derry Girls is sweet, emotional and hilarious. Two seasons long with six episodes each that span not more than 25 minutes, Derry Girls is a guaranteed blast. Do watch it if you are interested.
