Dubai has transformed into a hub for corporate negotiations and gatherings, attracting individuals from across the globe. As the travel sector gains momentum after the pandemic, a fresh trend called ‘bleisure’ tourism is taking shape.
This innovative concept intertwines business and leisure travel, swiftly establishing itself as not only a favored choice but also a financially sensible one, according to travel industry experts.
Approximately 20 percent of corporate voyagers from the region are now infusing leisure elements into their business trips, as stated by Sachin Gadoya, CEO and co-founder of musafir.com and Musafir Business. Gadoya added that projections indicate a potential 15 percent rise in this trend in the foreseeable future.
Analysts highlight this shift as individuals extend their business excursions by an additional 1 to 2 days for leisure activities, and vice versa. Predominant destinations for corporate travel originating from the UAE include Saudi Arabia, the UK, the USA, Japan, European countries, and other GCC nations. Experts anticipate these trips to encompass an even broader array of destinations and longer durations.
Dubai’s Role as a Stopover
Additionally, experts observe that Dubai has evolved into a stopover destination for corporate negotiations and meetings, drawing participants from various corners of the world. Firoz Maliyakkal, founder and CEO of Tahira Tours and Travels, notes, “Companies opt for Dubai due to its strategic location when arranging meetings. Individuals from both the Far East and Far West converge here for meetings, saving both time and money.”
The average cost of corporate travel within the GCC region ranges from Dh3,500 to Dh4,000, and this trend is projected to continue until 2024. However, during the summer, corporate travel predominantly consists of outbound journeys from the UAE.
Gadoya points out that prominent business travel destinations like Europe, the USA, and South East Asia effectively cater to the diverse needs of corporate travelers, with ticket prices spanning between Dh5,500 to Dh6,000 for these regions.
Anticipated Surge in Winter Travel
Experts predict an upswing in inbound travel during the upcoming winter months, driven by various events in the city, including COP28. Maliyakkal emphasizes that the abundance of leisure activities the country offers will contribute to this growth.
From the exhilarating Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to captivating art exhibitions, extensive conferences, vibrant concerts, invigorating marathons, and lively beach festivals, the region is gearing up to provide a wide spectrum of experiences.
Maliyakkal highlights that popular leisure activities for UAE business travelers include Dubai Skydive, water sports, visits to Qasr Al Watan, the Museum of the Future, and more.
