The two countries have not played a full series against each other since the 2008 terrorist attack on India by a Pakistan-based organization. Both have faced it in ICC Tournaments and Asia Cup.
Pakistan’s fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar proposed to organize a three-match ODI series between the two countries to raise funds for the fight against Coronavirus in India and Pakistan.
Shoaib told Islamabad, ‘In this period of crisis, I propose a three-match series between the two countries. For the first time, the result of this series will be anything, cricket fans of both countries will not be sad. He said, ‘We will be happy if Virat Kohli scores a century. You will be happy if Babar Azam scores a century. Whatever the outcome of the match, both teams will win.
He said, ‘This match will get a lot of viewers. For the first time, both countries will play for each other. Whatever money is received from this, it should be distributed equally between the two countries for the fight against Corona. Shoaib said, ‘At the moment everyone is sitting in the house, then they will see this match. Even if it is not yet when the conditions start to improve, then it can be played in Dubai, for this, a chartered flight can be arranged.
“This can also improve diplomatic relations between the two countries,” he said. He also said that both countries should help each other in this time of crisis. He said, ‘If India gives us 10000 ventilators, Pakistan will always remember it. We can only offer matches. The rest of the officers have to decide.
Asked about criticism from Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh, who requested Pakistan’s star cricketer Shahid Afridi’s charity support, he said, “It is inhuman.” At this time it should be a matter of humanity, not about the country or religion.
