President Donald Trump said the army was ready to attack three targets in Iran in response to the shooting down of a Navy drone by the Revolutionary Guards but said it had halted attacks at the last minute because they could have killed many people.
“Last night we were cocked and charged to retaliate in 3 different places, when I asked, how many will die? … 150 people, sir, was the response of a general.” Ten minutes before the attack I stopped him, it was not proportional to knocking down a drone, “said Trump.
The US president added that he is not “in a hurry” to respond to Iran’s attack on the drone of the Armed Forces of his country that operated in the Strait of Hormuz.
“I’m in no hurry, our army is rebuilt, it’s new and it’s ready to be, by far, the best in the world,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
The President also said that his country will increase sanctions against Iran after the incident of the demolition of the drone.
“The sanctions are running (and) were added last night, Iran could never have nuclear weapons, not against the US and not against the world,” Trump posted on Twitter.
On June 20th in the morning, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported the shooting down of a US surveillance drone, after it entered the airspace of the southeastern Iranian province of Hormozgan, near the Strait of Hormuz.
Later the Central Command of the United States (Centcom), although initially denied that the drones operated in that area, hours later admitted the demolition of the unmanned vehicle RQ-4A Global Hawk, stating that the events occurred in international waters.
The Government of Iran presented a protest to the UN for the violation of its airspace by the United States.
During the last few weeks, the US announced the sending of important military reinforcements to the Middle East, including an attack group with an aircraft carrier, a guided missile destroyer, reconnaissance aircraft, B-52 bombers, F-15 fighter jets, and missile systems. Patriot
The increase in the US military presence in the area is aimed at containing Iran and its allies, whom Washington accuses of sabotage against oil tankers, particularly the attacks on May 12th near the Emirati port of Fujairah and the US. June 13th in the Gulf of Oman.
