A group of Asian and Arabic men have been sentenced to jail for three years after being found guilty of stealing Dh80,000 from a company in Dubai and kidnapping one of its employees.
The victim claimed that he had been robbed while at work under duress, according to the case files. He reported that the entrance of the three individuals, one of whom was dressed in Emirati garb, inside the general trading company in Al Quoz caught him off guard (Kandora). He presented the victim with an ID card while claiming to be a CID officer.
During the investigation, it was revealed that all five men were involved in the robbery. They had planned the whole thing in advance and even bought the necessary materials to carry out the robbery.
The court heard how the gang had broken into the victim’s office in Al Quoz and stole the money before making their escape. However, they were caught by police after a short chase. The men were sentenced to three years in jail each. The leader of the group was also ordered to pay a fine of Dh20,000.
The other two men were said to be Asians. One of them had a knife, while the other held a rod. The men then tied up the victim’s hands and feet with duct tape before ransacking the place and taking off with Dh80,000 in cash.
The men were sentenced to three years in jail each, to be followed by deportation. They will also have to pay back the stolen money to the victim.
The males then allegedly walked immediately to the corporate safe and took Dh80,000, according to the first victim. The two victims were then placed in a car waiting outside the company’s headquarters, taken to Warsan, and finally released.
Investigators found the owner of the getaway car used in the incident rather quickly. The Gulf national who was in charge of the group of guys charged was discovered to be the owner of the car; he immediately admitted to the crime and disclosed where his accomplices were.
