The Blue Nile Hydropower Dam Agreement

The United States of America will keep working with Egypt, Ethiopia, and even Sudan till they confirm a deal regarding Blue Nile hydropower Dam Agreement, falling short to obtain signatures from 3 regions recently, the United States Treasury Executive secretary Steven Mnuchin mentioned on Friday, that the 3 nations were counted on to authorize and finalize an agreement in Washington regarding the $4 billion dollars Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), however, Ethiopia avoided the conference and just Egypt signed the deal so far.

On Friday Mnuchin claimed that he “maintained independent mutual discussions with key players from Egypt and also Sudan”, in the last couple of days, after Ethiopia requested a postponement in what was to become the last round of discussions, they revealed their own dissatisfaction with the United States’ following these discussions.

The federal government is, nonetheless, “dedicated to carrying on interaction/discussions” with Egypt as well as Sudan to reach a mutual understanding regarding the “preliminary filling and yearly procedure concerning the dam”, it claimed within a report.

It is not known whether or not additional conversations will be arranged.

Mnuchin claimed he eagerly anticipated Ethiopia wrapping up its own interior assessments in order to enable finalizing of the agreement “at their earliest opportunity”, and even emphasized that a deal regarding the dam “must never occur without having an agreement.”

“The United state of America reaffirms its own dedication to continuing talks with the 3 regions until these guys confirm the contract,” this person explained.

Ethiopia is definitely constructing the dike close to its own boundary with Sudan on the Blue Nile, which flows right into the Nile waterway – the primary drinking water provider for Egypt, a population of one hundred million.

The dike is the focal point in Ethiopia as being Africa’s largest energy exporter.

In previous conversations/discussions in Washington, the countries settled on a timetable with regard to the organized filling of the dike as well as mitigation systems in the dry periods, however, they still wanted to work out specifics on safety and security and even ways to deal with any type of conflicts before signing anything.
