With more than 200 million-plus players, Fortnite is undoubtedly the king of games in recent years, Forcing Kids into Video game Rehab.
From young to old, the game has countless fans. But, reportedly many children are seemingly addicted to playing the just a little more than enough. Like the 17-year-old son of Debbie Vitany who reportedly logs in about 12 hours a day. Carson’s teachers complain he falls asleep in class and his grades are drastically downgraded. In a recent interview Saginaw, Michigan living Vitany said, “I have never seen a game that has such control over kids’ minds. We’d made some progress in getting him to cut down his Fortnite hours and get better sleep, but he’s slipped back into his old habits.”
Apparently, Vitany isn’t alone parent complaining about the destructive properties of Fortnite. There are numerous reports of parents, schools and more talking about this aspect, and it’s negative ability to erode other aspects of the lives of those who play it. Lorraine Marer, a British behavioral specialist who works with kids battling game addiction said “This game is like heroin. Once you are hooked, it’s hard to get unhooked.” If comparing a video game to heroin may seem a little bit much, well it’s probably because it is. As we would expect, the response to this story in various internet media, some also have echoed the sentiments of personal accounts within, I slammed it also. Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, one of the game’s most popular streamers has tweeted Title should be “Terrible parents don’t know how to take their kid’s gaming system away“.
The World Health Organization designated “gaming disorder” as a disease first time in June, a welcoming move that could make it easier for parents to seek reimbursement for treatment from insurers.
