According to the sources obtained by MacRumors, a new 45-day return policy is now going to be introduced for the Apple Watch Series 4 due to the ECG (electrocardiogram) sensor embedded into the watch’s body. The groundbreaking ECG feature will be activated soon in Apple Watch Series 4 with the upcoming WatchOS 5.1.2 update. The US consumers will be able to advantage of this feature from the very beginning, but due to strict international market regulations, other countries may not be able to enjoy this facility with exception to Canada.
Now Apple stores will refer refund requests beyond the standard return period to Apple Support, so customers will need to contact Apple Support online or via phone and submit their request. ECG reading capabilities are expected to become the next big feature in wearables over the next year. Current data shows that a huge number of, between 2.7 to 6.1 million Americans, may suffer atrial fibrillation. The statistic can be lowered with the accurate real-time measure of ECG, which is possible on-the-go with Apple Watch Series 4. This may be the sole reason that FDA is changing to a more flexible stance on wearables that offer ECG functionality.
To take the ECG reading, Apple Watch users need to place a finger on the Digital Crown while wearing it. The reading will take 30 seconds to be completed, allowing users to determine whether their hearts are beating in a healthy and regular pattern or if there are any signs of atrial fibrillation. The ECG and other heart data will be collected in the Health app on the paired device which needs to be iPhone 5s or newer running iOS 12.1.1 or later.
