Xi Jinping To Embark On 3-Day Saudi Arabia Visit Tomorrow: State Media

Riyadh: Chinese President Xi Jinping will make a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia this week, meeting the lord and true leader of the world’s greatest oil exporter. Saudi state media provided details regarding Tuesday.

Xi, the leader of the world’s second largest economy, will also attend a summit with leaders from the six-part Bay Collaboration Chamber and meet with pioneers from elsewhere in the Middle East, reinforcing China’s growing ties with the region.

According to the Saudi Press Office, the Chinese leader will arrive on Wednesday for only his third trip abroad since the COVID pandemic began, and his first to Saudi Arabia since around 2016.

His respective peak, led by Lord Salman and reached by Crown Prince Mohammed Canister Salman, the realm’s true ruler, comes after Xi was elected to a significant third term in November.

According to Ali Shihabi, a Saudi expert close to the public authority, Xi’s visit reflects “a lot more recent relations established” between the two countries.

“As the biggest merchant of Saudi oil, China is a basically significant accomplice, and military relations have been growing emphatically,” he said, adding that he anticipated “various arrangements to be agreed upon.”

The visit also coincides with increased tensions between Saudi Arabia and the United States over issues ranging from energy strategy to provincial security and basic freedoms.

The most recent disaster for that many years old organisation occurred in October, when the OPEC+ oil coalition agreed to cut production by 2,000,000 barrels per day, a move the White House described as “aligning with Russia” on the Ukraine conflict.

On Sunday, OPEC+ chose to keep those cuts in place. Shihabi described the timing as “an incident that was not coordinated in the United States.” Coming in from the cold

Xi last visited Saudi Arabia in 2016, the previous year Ruler Mohammed was the preferred choice for the privileged position, out travelling that also included stops in Egypt and Saudi Arabia’s adversary Iran.

Sovereign Mohammed visited China and met with Xi on an Asia visit in 2019, the year prior to the COVID pandemic grabbing hold.

The current gathering will focus on a year in which Saudi Arabia, and specifically Crown Prince Mohammed, have found some solace following the outpouring of global outrage over the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the kingdom’s Istanbul department in 2018.

This year, Sovereign Mohammed has previously invited England’s then-state leader Boris Johnson, France’s Emmanuel Macron, and US President Joe Biden, who welcomed the crown ruler with a clenched hand knock in Jeddah, switching a 2019 vow to make Saudi Arabia “an outsider.”

China accounts for roughly one-fourth of Saudi Arabia’s oil trade. The oil market was thrown into disarray with Russia’s attack on Ukraine in February.

The G7 and EU concurred on Friday on a $60-per-barrel cost cap on Russian oil, trying to deny the Kremlin’s income to keep up the conflict and stir up additional vulnerability.

“Oil will most likely be higher on the list than it was when Biden visited,” said Torbjorn Soltvedt of the gambling insight firm Verisk Maplecroft.

“These are the two most significant players in the oil market: Saudi Arabia on the stock side and then China on the interest side.”

Beyond energy, analysts say leaders from the two countries are expected to discuss potential agreements that could see Chinese firms become more deeply involved with super ventures that are critical to Sovereign Mohammed’s vision of diversifying the Saudi economy away from oil.

Those undertakings incorporate a cutting-edge $500 billion megacity known as NEOM and a supposed mental city that will rely vigorously upon facial acknowledgment and observational innovation.
