Shubham Verma, popularly known as Sky Verma, is one of the rising rapper stars in India. At 23, Sky made a place for himself in the music industry. He hails from Ghaziabad, and along with being a rapper, he also owns a gym in his town. For Sky, music is the kryptonite that helps him keep going.
From childhood, Sky has grown up listening to all kinds of music in different languages. He was interested in how musicians compose songs and make tunes that catch everyone’s attention. The great exposure to music helped him understand his major interest – rap music. At the age of 20, Shubham Verma, aka Sky Verma, developed a deep interest in rapping and worked hard to excel in the art.
In India, rapping is not a mainstream music career. But the musical form has a great audience of its own. Whenever someone decides to walk a creative path, Indian parents have a tough time getting a grasp of it. The same happened with Shubham, but he didn’t lose hope and made sure his family felt proud of him.
About his family’s reaction to his career as a rapper, Sky Verma shares, “I convinced my family. Earlier, they told me not to do it, they thought I was going on a wrong path. They told me that this is not our Indian culture. But things eventually changed. Now they support me. My elder brother Akki Verma supports me a lot. My family has a lot of confidence and trust in me and only wish for my success in life.”
The music industry is competitive, especially for something niche like rapping. No journey is without any obstacles. Rapper Sky Verma also faced difficulties, and about the same, he states, “I faced lots of challenge. I am still facing some difficulties. In our country, not many people listen to rap music and hence, the viewership for desi hip hop is less. But I know that consistency is the key. I will keep working hard and I know my work will have a wider reach soon.”
