A special investigation team has been set up to identify the ‘fake follower’ scam which emerged recently. Around 176 high-profile celebrities, builders and sportsperson are to be summoned under this scam. Deepika and Priyanka are on the list along with eight other Bollywood celebrities.
With the rise of social media usage numerous cases about fake followers, fake IDs, online bullying, threats and cybercrimes have started surfacing. Where there are people who have created businesses out of their Instagram pages and achieved great successes there are people who have created fake IDs just to bully people or to post mean or derogatory comments on others post.
Recently, a similar case has been brought forward by a Bollywood Singer, Bhumi Trivedi. Bhumi discovered her fake profile on this photo-sharing app, Instagram. The person involved in creating this fake profile would chat with people and would then use these screenshots to increase the followers.
The case was brought forward to the Mumbai Police. “We have investigated and found as many as 54 firms involved in this racket. SIT comprising Crime Branch along with Cyber Cell has been formed which will help in investigating this case,” Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police, Vinay Kumar Chaubey, said.
Mumbai Police have arrested a man identified as Abhishek Dinesh Daude over creating fake profiles on social media.
