Influence on cross country restriction on single-utilize plastic in 2024 will emphatically affect decreasing utilization, say dealers

UAE retailers have recorded a 80 percent drop in single-use packs utilization since Dubai and Abu Dhabi declared 25 fils charge on such sacks in the year before.

This comes as the UAE government on Tuesday declared a sweeping on single-utilize plastic sacks in the country from January 2024, giving the retailers and different organizations time to get ready for helpful and cost cognizant elective choices to customers in the country.

In Abu Dhabi, a prohibition on single-use plastics came full circle on June 1, while in Dubai, since July 1, retailers have been charging 25 fils for every sack.

From January 1, 2024, there will be a sweeping restriction on single-use plastics across the UAE.

“Since July 2022, we have seen a decline in the utilization of plastic sacks by more than 70% across our stores. We trust the effect of the cross country prohibition on single-utilize plastic in 2024, will decidedly affect decreasing plastic utilization while empowering maintainable shopping ways of behaving,” said Christophe Orcet, head of business and tasks of Carrefour UAE at Majid Al Futtaim Retail.

Consequently, we give home conveyances to clients in eco-accommodating packs so there is no utilization of plastic sacks,” he said.
