The Board of Control for Cricket in India, i.e. BCCI, had trouble issuing prize money to junior players whose bank account has opened under Jan Dhan Yojana. A BCCI official said on the condition of confidentiality that he had a problem giving the prize money to six junior cricketers as his bank account had opened under the Jan Dhan Yojana. A BCCI official has explained why this has happened.

The BCCI official has said that a maximum amount of Rs 50 thousand can deposit in the accounts under Jan Dhan Yojana. It is the reason that BCCI had trouble transferring money because the money of half a dozen players was more than 50 thousand and only 50 thousand rupees can transfer to Jan Dhan account at one time.

The BCCI official said, “Cricketers of all age groups who received the award at the annual ceremony of BCCI were to given Rs 1.5 lakh. The transfer of prize money to senior players was done immediately after the service on January 11, but five juniors Declared transactions worth Rs 1.5 lakh in cricketers’ account”. He has said that in typical times when match fees transferred to these accounts then there is no problem because the amount is less at that time, but this time the amount was high, so there was trouble.

He further said, “After we failed to try to add money to these accounts many times, we asked our bank about it, then know that the accounts of these cricketers opened under the Jan Dhan Yojana. In such a situation, only 50 thousand rupees. Can be collected”. After this, the BCCI spoke to its bank (Bank of Maharashtra), and the banks with accounts of all the players were contacted and tried to resolve the issue.

The only solution to this issue was to convert Jan Dhan accounts into savings accounts, with no upper limit on cash deposits. The board official said, “Actually, the match fees of junior cricketers are meagre. Under-16 players get Rs 10,000 per match (Rs 2500 per day) and under-19 players get Rs 40,000 (Rs 10,000 per day)”.
