U.S. court ordered Syrian authorities to pay $302 million dollars in damages

A United State of America courtroom on Wednesday ordered Syrian authorities to pay $302 million dollars for damages of what they considered the “targeted murder” of United States foreign correspondent Marie Colvin during a 2012 artillery attack via Syrian forces on a  news press post.

Colvin, was 56, a well-known person for her coverage inside combat zones, and even identifiable with regard to the dark eye patch she wore after forfeiting an eyeball during an explosive blast within Sri Lanka.

Her way of life encompassing clashes around the world was really the topic in 2018 for biography as well as a featured movie “A Private War.”

United State of America District Judge Amy Berman Jackson approved the ruling in opposition to Syria within a 2016 civil lawsuit introduced by Colvin’s sister and also the sister’s kids.

The verdict consisted of $300 million dollars in punitive and even $2.5 million dollars with a compensatory loss with regard to pain and suffering.

Within an announcement published through her legal representatives, Colvin’s sibling, Cathleen Colvin pointed out, “It’s been almost seven years since my sister was killed by the Assad Regime, and not a day goes by when I don’t think of her.”.

The announcement carried on: “It is my greatest hope that the court’s ruling will lead to other criminal prosecutions, and serve as a deterrent against future attacks on the press and on civilians.”.
