Malayalam director, screenwriter and producer AB Raj alias Raj Antony Bhaskar, died due to cardiac arrest on August 23 in Chennai. He was 95 years old. Actress Saranya Ponvannan, who won National award for her performances, is his daughter. He started his career in Malayalam in the 1960s and had also directed more than 10 films in Sinhalese under the screen name A Bhaskar Raj.
Malayalam movies such as Oomana Kunju (1975), Seemantha Puthran (1976), Aval Oru Devaalayam (1977), Raju Rahim (1978), Kazhukan (1979), Thaalam Thettiya Tharattu (1983), Manase Ninakku Mangalam (1984), and Ormikkan Omanikkan (1985).
He also made two Tamil movies during the 1970s, namely Thulli Odum Pullimaan and Kai Niraya Kasu.
He lived and studied most of his life in Tamil Nadu and has made films in the period of 1951 to 1986. He died at his daughter Saranya Ponvannan’s residence in Virugambakkam, Chennai at around 8 pm and the last rituals was performed today around 3 pm
