On Tuesday night in India’s tech hub a major incident had happened where the Muslims sparked the protest because of the Facebook post.The Bengaluru police station was severely attacked and the politician’s house and vehicles were torched.
“The situation is under control,” Bengaluru City Police said on Twitter, adding that police fired live ammunition to disperse the crowd after using tear gas and batons.
“Despite elders of the community trying to pacify the crowd, the mob burnt vehicles on the road, they attacked the police station,” Police Commissioner Kamal Pant said.
Commissioner Kamal Pant on Wednesday morning also confirmed the arrest of the accused named Naveen for uploading derogatory posts. “Also a total of 110 accused have been arrested for arson, stone-pelting, and assault on police,” Police Commissioner Kamal Pant said.
At least three people have died in southern India’s Bengaluru city after protesters clashed with police over a provocative social media post about the Prophet Muhammad, police have told Reuters news agency.
The incident took place around 7pm at Kaval Byrasandra in Bengaluru, outside Pulkeshinagar Congress MLA R Akhanda Srinivas Murthy’s house. The mob alleged that a Facebook post by the MLA’s relative was offensive to Islam and its beliefs.
“This is an act of miscreants. Police and government will investigate and initiate legal action against mischief-mongers. I’m the MLA of this constituency and everyone here is my family. I request you to maintain peace. I fear miscreants may take advantage of the situation,” Pulakeshinagar MLA Akhanda Srinivasamurthy said.
Meanwhile, 6257 more people tested positive for coronavirus in Karnataka as the total rose to 1,88,611 on Tuesday. However, discharges (6473) outnumbered fresh cases confirmed in the last 24 hours.
