Kathmandu:
Nepal on Monday submitted a letter to the Indian Ambassador protesting against the construction of a major road connecting Lipulekh Pass to Dharchula in Uttarakhand. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday inaugurated the new 80-km route, which is expected to help pilgrims to visit Kailash-Mansarovar in Tibet, China, as it is about 90 km from Lipulekh Pass.
During the meeting, Gyawali informed the Indian Ambassador about the Government of Nepal’s stand on the border issue. It said, “The ministry also handed over a diplomatic letter to Ambassador Quatra.” In New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Saturday that this road falls within the Indian border area. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement that the road which was recently inaugurated in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand state is completely within the Indian border area.
The Government of Nepal has objected to the construction of a road in the Lipulekh region by the Government of India to join the Mansarovar of Tibet. Nepal claims that the area in which the road is constructed falls within its border area.
