Amidst the worldwide epidemic of coronavirus, Israeli Defense Minister Naftali Bennett has claimed that scientists at the country’s main biological research institute have made a “significant breakthrough” in developing an antibody for the coronavirus. He said that our team has completed the development phase of the vaccine to eliminate the coronavirus and now work is underway on its patent and large scale potential production. Bennett visited the labs of Israel’s Institute for Biological Research (IIBR) in Ness Ziona on Monday and ordered to develop a vaccine for the coronavirus.
The statement issued in this regard says that this antibody attacks the virus and neutralizes it in the body. According to the statement, the work to develop the antibody was completed and the institute “is in the process of patenting it”. In the next phase of this process, researchers will contact international companies to produce antibodies on a commercial scale. Defense Minister Bennett said, “I am proud of the staff of the Institute for this significant success, their creativity paved the way for this achievement”.
It is worth noting that in March this year, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz was quoted by medical sources as saying that the scientists of the institute have achieved significant success in understanding the biological mechanisms and properties of viruses. Significantly, IIBR was founded in the year 1952 as a part of the Israel Defense Forces Science Corpus and later became a civilian organization. It is technically under the supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office but is in close contact with the Ministry of Defense. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is said to have ordered the institute to develop a vaccine for COVID-19 on 1 February. “The Biological Institute is a world-renowned research and development agency and has more than 50 experienced scientists working in it”.
