Iranian forces and their proxies in Syria recruit 9000 young fighters from regional Shia neighborhoods within the south and north-east of the nation, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) the other day.
Iranian-backed Shia militias supposedly hired over 5,350 boys from the southern provinces of Syria and nearly 3,600 from the north-eastern provinces east of the Euphrates River.
In the southern province of Daraa, the Alawite militia ‘Saraya Al-Areen’ – part of the Brigade 313 under the management of Abu Al-Harith– hired boys from Shia-populated locations of Sayda, Da’el, and Izraa and after that sent them to basic training in the province’s eastern Al-Lajat location. Towards the Golan Heights inhabited by Israel, the city of Quneitra saw the Lebanon-based Hezbollah militia hire boys who apparently got away from Syria’s necessary military service, enticing them to join its own ranks as an option.
The groups’ mass recruitment was likewise occurring in locations around the Euphrates River in the north-east, especially in those of Al-Mayadin to Al-Bokamal in the eastern countryside of Deir Ez-Zor province.
The recruitment project is, according to SOHR, being done “by providing monetary rewards and constant use of faith and sectarianism”, consisting of the conversion of employees to the Shia sect of Islam in order to oppose the nation’s Sunni population.
