Not content with just accusing Russia of election meddling, U.S. officials also say that Moscow is attempting to “sow discord” through spreading disinformation about the coronavirus and the position of the U.S. in developing and reacting internationally.
Officials at the US State Department said that Russia is behind an online campaign to blame the United States government for coronavirus.
Without citing specific examples, sources told Middle East headlines news team that the foreign government uses “false personas” to propagate conspiracies regarding the current virus, including that the virus is a move to “wage economic war on China,” and that it may be a biological weapon used by the CIA to “cast anti-China propaganda.”
The texts are allegedly distributed via multiple online accounts, made up of people and not fake accounts, that also post similar responses in multiple languages and maybe “traced back to Russian proxies.”
The undetermined number of accounts have garnered “carte blanche” from those in the Russian government to say whatever or not they do damage to the reputation of the US is still in the air, the report suggests. Philip Reeker, who is the assistant secretary.
