Netflix’s series, The Witcher gained a massive hit in 2019. But, the question arises why is noticeable older as compared to the books and games?
Here’s are all the reasons, why The Witcher, decided Ciri older for the Netflix adaptation. Prior to December 2019, The Witcher was known as a video game series. However, Geralt of Rivia’s story began in written form. It is inspired with the series of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. The novel contains main saga comprises of five volumes and chronicles. Geralt protected the young princess Ciri from the many parties, who wish to separate her head from her body. Ciri made her appearance in the video game in The Witcher 3.
What is the main reason behing Ciri’s older age?
While many fans assumed an older Ciri was a good decision designed to give the character more versatility in live-action. Showrunner, Lauren S. Hissrich, explained in a Reddit post “that the plan was to go authentic and cast a 12-year-old actress as Ciri.” But, when the production team realized that most of the Ciri’s scenes would come at night. And, the child labor laws would greatly affect the filming during the small hours.
Does the age really affects?
Though, Ciri’s age shouldn’t impact The Witcher negatively. As mentioned before, the Netflix series made sure to frame Ciri in a child way. So, that the audience can view her as an innocent and defenseless youngster in need of a protection. However, the gap between Ciri and Geralt’s ages remains equal if the former is a teenager.
If, their relationship and dynamic doesn’t get altered. Geralt still can act as her adopted parent despite the age change. An older Ciri will naturally be more strong, but these qualities are always present in the character at any age. So, the personality isn’t a problem either. If you have noticed in the books, Sapkowski is inconsistent with regards to Ciri’s true age. It is emphasizing how unimportant the specific number is to her character.
