Recent reports by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), have warned that a gigantic asteroid named 2020ND is set to pass by Earth. A prestigious US space agency has claimed that, it carries the potential to cause some serious damage to the land.
Celestial events like these are not uncommon, but inspire panic and fear among the general public. Despite deep studies in these subjects space agencies are always curious and interested to go even deeper to find new and interesting things. NASA has suspected a celestial event which is set to take place on 24th July 2020.
According to the officials at NASA the asteroid will come within just 0.034 astronomical units (AU) or 5,086,327 kilometres of Earth. Reports also mentioned that it is moving at a rapid speed of 48,000 kilometres per hour. This space rock has been compared with the famous and iconic London landmark, The London Eye which is 443 feet high and Asteroid 2020ND is bigger than the London eye by approximately 50 per cent, claims numerous media reports because it is 170m tall.
Space agencies have declared that celestial objects like, asteroid, having a minimum orbit intersection distance (MOID) of 0.05 AU or less are considered Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHA). It has been assumed that the asteroid might have been pushed by the gravitational force of other planets into the Earth’s region of space.
Further reports presents that, the rock will just come really close to the surface of the Earth and will not collide to the surface of the planet. NASA has suggested that, there is a very little probability of an asteroid to cause damage with its strike.
Despite being enormous in size, the asteroid will not be visible to the naked human eye. Even with the powerful telescopes it is difficult to view this 2020ND asteroid, reports claimed.
