The Detection of Liquid Water on Mars by the Italian space agency:
For decades, scientists have been searching for evidence of liquid water on Mars. Although subterranean ice deposits and the topography of the Red Planet suggest an aqueous past, scientists were not able to confirm the presence of liquid water until July 2018.
Precisely on July 25, the Italian Space Agency announced their researchers have discovered an underground lake on planet Mars. Using the Mars Advanced Radar for Subsurface and Ionosphere Sounding instrument (MARSIS) –a ground-penetrating radar, scientists discovered a sub-glacial lake that is approximately 3 feet deep and 12.4 miles wide.
Scientists Uncovered a 105 Million Year Old Amber –the First Ever Fossilized Snake Embryo
In July 2018, the Paleontologists at the University of Alberta announced that they found the first ever fossilised embryo of a snake. Dating back 105 million years and preserved in amber, the embryo may offer some key insight with regards to the evolution of snakes.
The team involved in the research has been on the trail of snake migration across Madagascar, Australia, India, as well as Africa and Asian countries. The amber which contained the embryo also included plants and insects, an indication that the snake lived in a forest habitat.
Scientists Pinpointed Origins of Ghost Particles
Scientists released a study on July 12, 2018, narrating how they were able to detect the exact source of a neutrino, also known as “ghost particle.” A Neutrino is a sub-atomic, particle of negligible mass and no charge. The tiny specks are as little as electrons and can travel across the universe while maintaining a straight course. They do not interact with or bump into other particles, which is why they are nicknamed ghost particles. For this reason, they are almost impossible to detect.
Astronomers Discovered The Brightest Object From The Universe’s Origin.
Astronomers discovered the brightest object in our universe in July 2018. The discovered quasar, named P352-15 for short, is 13 billion light-years away from Earth and came into being when the universe was only about 7% of its present age.
A quasar is an object in space, similar to a galaxy, which is powered by a super massive black hole. They could be up to a billion times bigger than the Sun. Quasars absorb matter and then spew them out in the form of blinding plasma. For this reason, scientists are able to detect them with sophisticated telescopes. Studies by scientists will continue on this quasar in a bid to have a better understanding of the universe and its origin.
