As the Gaza War approaches its twelfth month, the Houthi group claims that its new hypersonic missile has managed to avoid Israel’s air defense systems.
The Israeli military claims that a long-range ballistic missile fired from Yemen struck central Israel and caused fire.
Residents in Tel Aviv and around central Israel, including the Ben Gurion international airport, fled for cover when the missile set off air raid sirens. Normal operations resumed immediately after, according to the airport administration, and there were no reports of injuries or damage.
Images of a piece that fell into an escalator in a train station in the town of Modiin, in the center, were also displayed.
“A surface-to-surface missile was seen entering central Israel from the east and landing in an open region, following the sirens that sounded in central Israel moments earlier. The military claimed there were no reported injuries.
Magen Israel’s emergency services, David Adom, stated in a post on X that nine individuals had gotten minor injuries while trying to find safety.
The military said that the loud booms heard in the area were caused by Israeli missile interceptors.
It further stated that its safety standards for citizens of Israel remained unaltered.
The Israeli defense system was unable to shoot down the Yemeni missile, which resulted in a fire, according to the Houthi-run Saba news agency.
“A Yemeni missile made it to Israel after ’20 missiles failed to intercept it,” a Houthi media representative named Nasruddin Amer wrote on X.
With a “new hypersonic ballistic missile” that eluded Israel’s air defense systems, the organization “hit a military station of the Israeli adversary in the Jaffa area,” according to Yahya Saree, the group’s military spokeswoman.
According to a statement from his office, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the Houthis “should have realized by now that we charge a severe price for any effort to damage us” at the beginning of a cabinet meeting on Sunday.
Hamas applauds the assault
The Palestinian organization Hamas, which is located in Gaza, applauded the Houthis for their missile assault and threatened Israel with “no security” unless it quits its conflict in Gaza.
As stated in a statement, the group saw the missile attack as a “logical response to the onslaught against our Palestinian people by the Zionist entity.”
The group claimed in the statement, “We confirm that the Zionist enemy will not experience security unless it quits its savage onslaught against our people in the Gaza Strip.”
The Houthi organization, sometimes referred to as Ansar Allah, or “supporters of God,” is in charge of the majority of Yemen, including Sanaa, the country’s capital.
Since November, it has been assaulting ships connected to Israel in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Bab al-Mandeb strait. It claims this is all part of its campaign of solidarity with the Palestinian people and against Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza.
Due of this, shipping companies have been compelled to divert their vessels for lengthier and more costly trips around Southern Africa.
Since January, a military coalition led by the United States has been hitting Houthi sites, but the Yemeni organization has not stopped attacking.
