Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, 26, is shot in the head while demonstrating against illegal Israeli settlements. According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa and an official at a hospital, Israeli forces shot and killed an American-Turkish activist at a demonstration in the occupied West Bank.

On Friday, 26-year-old Aysenur Ezgi Eygi was shot while participating in a demonstration against illegal Israeli settlements on Mount Sbeih in Beita, south of Nablus. According to the news agency Reuters, Ezgi Eygi arrived at the Rafidia Hospital in Nablus in a critical condition with a serious head injury.

He stated, “We tried to perform a resuscitation operation on her, but sadly, she died.” Wafa, citing local sources, reported that Israeli forces fired live ammunition, stun grenades, and tear gas at demonstrators, resulting in the shooting of Ezgi Eygi. Al Jazeera was informed by a witness named Jonathan Pollak that he discovered Ezgi Eygi “lying on the ground beneath an olive grove, bleeding to death.”

I took her pulse and tried to stop the bleeding by placing my hand under her head. Her pulse was very weak. We contacted an ambulance and transferred her to the vehicle that carried her to safety. After Ezgi Eygi’s death, Nablus Governor Ghassan Daghlas said that “all legal measures” would be sent to the International Criminal Court.

He told reporters, “We appeal to President Biden to stop all support to the occupying state because the occupying state is working hard to bomb hospitals, kill children, kill foreigners, including American nationals,” and that the occupying state is working hard to kill American nationals as well. “Replying with fire toward a main instigator of violent activity who hurled rocks at the forces who posed a threat to them,” the Israeli military said in a statement.

It stated that it was investigating reports that “shots fired in the area killed a foreign national.” Wafa reported that shrapnel struck an 18-year-old Palestinian victim in the thigh during the incident. Turkey condemns the shooting, but the US “urgently” seeks information.

On X, Jack Lew, the Ambassador of the United States to Israel, stated, “We are urgently gathering more information about the circumstances of her [Ezgi Eygi’s] death, and will have more to say as we learn more.” The security and safety of American citizens is our top priority.

Matthew Miller, a spokesman for the United States Department of State, stated that the country was “urgently gathering more information” and “will have more to say as we learn more.” In a statement, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Israel was “trying to intimidate all those who come to the aid of the Palestinian people and who fight peacefully against the genocide” by killing its citizen.

This violent policy will not work. The statement said, “Those who unconditionally support the Israeli authorities and those who commit crimes against humanity will be held accountable before international courts.”

Ezgi Eygi was a member of the International Solidarity Movement, which describes itself as a Palestinian-led movement that is “committed to resisting the long-entrenched and systematic oppression and dispossession of the Palestinian population, using nonviolent, direct-action methods and principles.”

Ezgi Eygi was a member of the International Solidarity Movement. She was protesting Israeli settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, which has increased since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza in October. The US administration of President Joe Biden asserts that the Israeli settlements in the West Bank are “inconsistent with international law,” despite the fact that the vast majority of the international community regards them as illegal.

However, Washington has consistently used its veto power in the United Nations Security Council to shield Israel from diplomatic criticism over the years, providing diplomatic cover for Israel.
