Santos (STO.AX) said on Thursday an Australian court has allowed an in-between time order keeping it from beginning work on laying undersea pipelines on its $3.6 billion Barossa gas project off northern Australia.

The decision comes after Simon Munkara, a conventional land proprietor from the Tiwi Islands, held up procedures with the Government Court of Australia to stop the pipeline works until its effect and hazard to submerged social legacy were appropriately surveyed.

Law office Natural Protectors Office (EDO) addressed Munkara and other native elderly folks from the Tiwi Islands who had asked the public authority to make an earnest statement to obstruct the pipeline development.

The pipeline would make critical harm old cemetery, native craftsmanship and other hallowed hereditary locales, Munkara expressed, as per an assertion from EDO.

Santos, which means to begin delivering gas from Barossa in the primary portion of 2025, said its direction on cost and timetable for the task stayed unaltered. It will keep on safeguarding the court procedures.

Australia’s seaward controller requested Santos in January to assess the ecological dangers to submerged native social legacy prior to beginning pipeline work however it didn’t disallow the beginning of work.

Santos has said, refering to an autonomous master, that there were no particular submerged social legacy destinations along the arranged course of the pipeline.

A Santos transport was hours from starting work on the pipeline, legal counselors for Munkara told the court. Santos said the vessel will stay at its ongoing area however no pipeline works will be led meanwhile directive.

The court’s decision represents one more obstacle for the undertaking and a success for Native gatherings restricting petroleum product improvements, who have been raising worries it could harm the climate and their social legacy.
