Russia’s Government Security Administration (FSB) has raised concerns over a suspicious incident involving a grain transport vessel originating from Turkey. On Monday, the FSB reported that they had detected hints of explosives on the boat as it was en route to the port of Rostov-on-Don in Russia.
The boat was previously docked in the Ukrainian port of Kiliia in May, and the FSB suggested the possibility that it might have been utilized to transport explosives to Ukraine.
According to the FSB’s statement, the vessel, whose name had been changed while docked in the Turkish port of Tuzla, had also undergone a crew replacement, with 12 Ukrainian nationals being replaced.
The combination of these circumstances led the FSB to express concerns about the potential misuse of the foreign civilian boat for the transportation of explosives to Ukraine.
The vessel was subjected to inspection in the Kerch Waterway, and subsequently, it was prohibited from continuing its journey within Russian waters. Following the investigation, the vessel departed from Russian territory.
