Chairman Mukesh Ambani stated at a shareholder meeting on Thursday that Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries (RELI.NS) expects its new energy business to be as profitable as its mainstay oil-to-chemicals segment over the next five to seven years.
Solar photovoltaic and fuel cell manufacturing, energy storage, and green hydrogen production are among the components of the company’s new energy business. “I predict it becoming as large and productive throughout the following 5-7 years, as our O2C (oil-to-synthetic substances) business, which we had worked throughout the course of recent years,” Ambani said.
Investigators had been sitting tight for a viewpoint for Dependence’s new energy business, which has seen weighty speculations. At Jamnagar, in western India, Reliance Industries manages the largest refining complex in the world.
The center of its oil-to-chemicals operations is the complex, which is home to two refineries with a combined capacity of approximately 1.4 million barrels per day. Despite the conglomerate’s aggressive expansion into retail, telecom, and green energy, the oil-to-chemicals business accounts for two-thirds of the company’s revenue and is a key profit driver.
Reliance Industries announced in 2021 that it would invest $10 billion to expand its green energy portfolio and reach its 2035 objective of zero net carbon emissions. Ambani said that Reliance is on track to make the planned investments on Thursday.
Before the current year’s over, the organization will start the creation of its sun oriented photograph voltaic modules and will finish the principal period of coordinated sun based creation offices in the accompanying quarters, Ambani said.
Ambani stated that the organization has leased barren wasteland in Gujarat state to generate approximately 150 billion units of electricity, or approximately 10% of India’s energy requirements, over the next ten years. He stated that it is also developing transmission infrastructure to gradually bring solar generation projects online beginning in 2026.
According to Ambani, the company has secured land at Kandla port, adjacent to Jamnagar’s marine infrastructure, for the production, storage, and shipping of green fuels to markets both domestic and international.
