Walt Disney Co on Thursday postponed the release of Mulan which was scheduled to hit the cinema screens on August 21. The producers hoped that it would light the late-summer cinema-going craze.

Due to coronavirus, the cinema business is going through a tough time. Numerous filmmakers and producers are planning on delaying their movies. They are wishing to hit huge numbers but due to the current situation, they are skeptical about the numbers they will reach if they make digital premier. For the hard work and money, they have put in making a film they want their audience to go through a phenomenal cinematic experience. Thereby, they are pushing their release dates in the hope that the world will soon become corona-free.
Delayed releases
After Mulan being delayed indefinitely, ViacomCBS Inc’s Paramount Pictures also said Top Gun: Maverick, the much-awaited sequel to the Tom Cruise-starring Top Gun, has been delayed to July 2, 2021, from December 23, 2020.
Warner Bros. also delayed the release date of Christopher Nolan’s thriller Tenet.
Apart from Mulan, Walt Disney Co. have further pushed the released date of two of its biggest franchise. Release date of Avatar and Star Wars are postponed to next year now. The Avatar sequel is now set to debut in theatres in December 2022, and the next Star Wars movie in December 2023.
“It’s become clear that nothing can be set in stone when it comes to how we release films during this global health crisis,” a Disney representative said. “Today that means pausing our release plans for ‘Mulan’ as we assess how we can most effectively bring this film to audiences around the world.”
