Carlos Pena on Thursday announced his retirement from professional football. The 36-year-old Spaniard played for the final two seasons for FC Goa and helped the team win the Indian Super League (ISL) title for the first time.

Last season, Goa was first on the table in the ISL and due to this they became the first team from India to make it to the group round of the AFC Champions League. Carlos played 43 matches for Goa in the last two seasons. He was an important part of the team’s defense.
On his retirement Carlos said, “It was fantastic for me to live in the last two seasons in India and FC Goa. I am happy to get the love of the people of Goa every day. We have achieved a lot together. I and my family were lucky to have Got an opportunity to live in India for two years. I want to say that we will always be from Goa. “
