Netanyahu prepared to quit in return for Israel-Saudi peace deal

In a recent development, there have been claims that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is willing to step down from his position in exchange for a groundbreaking peace agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia, which would be backed by the United States. However, it’s important to note that these assertions have been met with vehement denial and skepticism.

According to an article in the Agudat Yisrael-affiliated haredi newspaper

HaModia, Netanyahu has allegedly come to terms with the notion that his political career is drawing to a close.

The report suggests that he would resign from his role as prime minister and accept a plea bargain for his ongoing criminal trials in exchange for the coveted normalization deal with Saudi Arabia. This purported decision is said to be based on the belief that Netanyahu lacks the capability to effectively govern Israel given the current political landscape.

Furthermore, HaModia’s report indicates that Netanyahu is wholeheartedly dedicated to facilitating a pact with the Saudis, even if it means jeopardizing the stability of his own government. This commitment, if true, underscores the significance he places on this potential peace agreement.

However, it’s worth noting that Netanyahu’s Likud party vehemently refutes the claims made in the ultra-Orthodox newspaper. They categorically dismiss these assertions as baseless fabrications.

According to Likud, there have been no discussions or commitments to alter the composition of the government in connection with the proposed normalization deal with Saudi Arabia. They assert that the current government will continue to serve its term, irrespective of any efforts made by the prime minister to expand Israel’s diplomatic relations and pursue a path to peace.

In summary, the reported willingness of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign in exchange for an Israel-Saudi Arabia peace deal, backed by the United States, has created significant speculation and controversy.

While these claims have been published in HaModia, they are fiercely contested by Netanyahu’s Likud party, which maintains that the government’s composition remains unchanged and that its tenure will persist, independent of any peace efforts. The accuracy and implications of these reports remain subjects of intense debate and scrutiny within the political landscape of Israel.
