Amprion, a prominent German grid company (RWEG.DE), has taken a significant stride forward by designating Prysmian, an Italian entity (PRY.MI), as the “preferred bidder” for three pivotal power transmission cable ventures collectively valued at 4.5 billion euros ($4.9 billion).

This development was confirmed by Prysmian on Tuesday

The essence of this agreement involves initiating negotiations between the two entities, with the ultimate goal of solidifying definitive contracts for the German wind undertakings by January 15, 2024, as highlighted in a statement released by the Italian cable manufacturer.

In response to this news, the stock price of Prysmian saw a noteworthy uptick of 4.40%, reaching 36.06 euros at 0840 GMT. The shares reached an intraday peak of 36.12 euros in early trading immediately following the announcement from the company. Italian brokerage firm Equita expressed positivity about this development, considering the substantial value associated with the contracted projects.

The projects in question bear the names BalWin1, BalWin2, and DC34, constituting integral components of Germany’s overarching strategy to establish a 70-gigawatt (GW) offshore wind energy infrastructure by 2045. These initiatives have the essential role of facilitating the seamless transfer of energy generated in the North Sea to end consumers residing in the western and southern regions of the nation.

Hendrik Neumann, the Chief Technical Officer of Amprion, who oversees operations at the company that boasts a 25% ownership by German energy giant RWE, acknowledged the significance of this agreement.

Neumann highlighted that this represents a substantial stride toward the timely realization of these three pivotal projects. Furthermore, the pact sets the stage for Amprion to secure the critical components necessary for their offshore initiatives by the year 2030.

In conclusion, Amprion’s strategic decision to designate Prysmian as the “preferred bidder” for their trio of power transmission cable projects marks a substantial leap forward in the progression of Germany’s wind energy ambitions. As negotiations commence and the contracts materialize, this collaboration holds the potential to not only bolster the energy infrastructure but also contribute significantly to the nation’s transition toward renewable energy sources.
