Twitter hack

Federal Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation to track the Twitter hackers who breached the cybersecurity laws by hacking the verified accounts of a popular social media platform. The US Senate Commerce Committee has questioned the security measures that were taken by the platform.

On Thursday, hijackers deliberately penetrated the accounts of billionaires including, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Barak Obama, reality-TV star Kim Kardashian West and many more. Taking advantage of these popular names and visible accounts the hijackers have urged people to donate huge amounts of money in the form of cryptocurrency.

US Policy and lawmakers have expressed their concerns over the whole dialogue. US Senator Ed Markey says, “Imagine if the bad actors that hacked Twitter had a different intent, to use powerful voices to spread disinformation, to interfere with our elections or disrupt the stock market.”

Due to this massive cryptocurrency scam, some verified Twitter accounts have been compromised as Twitter had to immediately stop these (hacked accounts) from retweeting. In addition to that, account holders were even barred from password resetting requests.

Twitter said that “significant steps” were taken to strengthen security measures. To prevent such malicious activities tech firm has blocked the tweeting of Bitcoin wallet addresses for some time. Internal system access has also been limited to prevent the leak of private information while the investigation persists.

Owner of a renowned cyber-security company tweeted saying, “This appears to be the worst hack of a major social media platform yet.”

Some politicians raised their eyebrows on Trump’s account. White House replied, saying that his account was not compromised.

Following this cryptocurrency scam, UK’s National Cyber Security Centre requests people to be cautious towards these money request tweets and research for legitimate sources before taking any actions.

Twitter identified many such malpractices, last year Twitter’s chief executive Jack Dorsey was a victim of one. Considering the tweets and activities of the hacker it seems that he still has more to do.
